São José do Ribamar is a small but very religious village situated only 32 km from São Luís. Its very traditional celebrations attract people from all over Brazil. September is the month which the believers pay tribute to the guardian of the town. More than 100 thousand people go to this small colonial town to thank São José do Ribamar for the miracles realized during the year and to appreciate the 17,5 m statue of the guardian. Raposa is a fishing village situated in a mangrove region, habitat for thousands of crabs. Igarapés, dunes and the deserted beaches which complete the amazing landscape. An extra attraction is the handwork and the embroidery of this village.
Departure in the morning to visit Raposa by an acclimatized transfer (the time depends on the tide). There you will get to visit the embroidery house.
After this a local boat called “biana” will bring you to the Carimã beach at Curupu Island, passing through the islands and igarapés of the region.
After lunch (not included) the next stop will be the city of São José do Ribamar, where you will find the Matriz church, the Lourdes Cave and the monument of São José and Jesus.
Return to São Luís in the afternoon.
