Seasonal features

In this coastal region of the Brazilian Northeast, along the Route of Emotions which includes the states of Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará, temperatures fluctuate between 37 ° and 22 ° throughout the year and the climate is hot and semi-humid. The rainy season runs from January to May; this period is indicated for those who can not stand the excessive heat; the dry season begins in June and goes until December, at this time the sun is steady and strong; this is definitely the best period for hiking.
We remind that due to the dry season, some lagoons of the National Park of Lençóis Maranhenses you can meet in the dry period from October to February.

Note: The allocation of seats is totally random and for those who want more comfort, we offer the possibility of a private vehicle in supplement.
Important: the municipality of Jericoacoara requires a stay fee, already included in the cost of the tour. The voucher that we will send you must be shown (in digital format) upon your arrival in Jericoacoara and also to the pousada where you will be staying (children up to 12 years and adults over 60 years are exempt from paying).
Important: There have been rumors circulating for a few days that a new environmental tax will be instituted in addition to the stay tax already included and paid in your itinerary but no timetable for when it will come into effect has been disclosed. The value is expected to be around R$ 50 (USD 9) per person and will be paid on the spot, although it has not yet been determined whether it will be collected at the hotel or otherwise. Departure at 8:00 in the morning in a private air-conditioned 4X4 to the city of Parnaiba, in the Piauì state.
We travelling the panoramic route long a 40-km stretch of coast, through trails, edging sand dunes, palm trees and coconut trees on the way to Tatajuba where we get to know the lagoon "Lagoa Grande” and proceed until to the city of Camocim where we cross “Rio Coreaù” boarding a ferry and the trip continues along 50 km of paved road until we reach Chaval where we climb go up the observatory to see look over the small city with its houses constructed in the middle of giant rocks.
We then travel 75 km of paved road, passing through the dunes of Luis Correia until we reach the city of Parnaiba
We’d like to mention that the actual duration of each visit is influenced by the schedule of the tides and is decided at the moment of the excursion.
We will stop for lunch (lunch not included) along the way and arrive at the inn around 1:30 pm.

At 2:30 p.m. departure from the pousada to reach the port dos Tatus about 20 minutes away, where we will start the boat trip to discover the Delta of Parnaíba, unique in the world for its variety of different landscapes like dunes, “igarapés”, mangrove and islands and that we can consider as a glimpse of the Amazon rainforest along the Route of the Emotions.
At the end of the excursion, the sunset, from July to January, offers the possibility of watching hundreds of fire-red ibises in flight to their own refuges in the middle of the forest, a truly amazing spectacle.

Overnight stay in Parnaiba with breakfast.

Day 5
Parnaíba / Atins
Departure to Barreirinhas at 09:00 am by an air-conditioned private 4WD vehicle, duration of this trip about 5 hours.
On the firts part of the trip to Barreirinhas we follow 144 km of the paved road until reaching the town of Rio Novo and we will continue along the panoramic route, crossing a stretch of the dunes of the Little Lençois Maranhenses, following sand trails along the beach, which in the rainy season, can be flooded; we will coast a gigantic wind farm built in front of the sea and meet native fishermen huts lost at the "foot" of the desert.
Arriving at Caburé beach and at 12:00 pm we will continue by boat crossing the river Rio Preguiça and in a few minutes we will arrive at the Atins beach, where we will wait the 4X4 jeep ( no air conditioning) that will take us to the pousada.
Remainder of the day at leisure to relax and stroll along the beach toward sunset.

Some important things to know about Atins: it's a small city whose sandy streets can get hot during the dry season; there are no pharmacies; there is limited access to technology as the internet and cell phone signal is unstable; the local electricity grid is precarious; and during the high season, the traffic is very intense and noisy. There is no public aqueduct and each pousada has its own water well. The water in the rooms' bathrooms is not completely transparent, which is characteristic of the region. Due to its location in the middle of nature, insects and other animals such as small lizards, frogs and/or ants are common and sometimes manage to get into the rooms, despite the measures taken to minimize these inconveniences. In brief, anyone who decides to stay at Atins must be adaptable.

Overnight in Atins with breakfast.

Day 6
Atins

Breakfast at hotel and morning at leisure to visit this small village with beautiful beaches, famous for the sport of kite-surf.

In the afternoon between 02:30 and 03:00 pm departure with a 4X4 jeep ( no air conditioning), passing through meadows that during the rainy season are flooded and in the following months gradually dry up, creating an ideal habitat for grazing various animals. The Lençois Maranhenses park is 20 minutes far away, and you can already see the first dunes called the Canto di Atins, reached which we will continue to the lagoons with fresh and crystalline waters that form between the immensity of the dunes.
After admiring an exciting sunset in the dunes, we will continue.
On the way back we will stop at a typical local restaurant at Canto di Atins, that has become famous for its exceptional grilled shrimp (meal not included).
Return to city after 7:30 pm.

Overnight in Atins.

Day 7
Atins / Barreirinhas

Departure in the morning at 9:00 am ( don't forget to bring your luggage with you ) to the Atins beach, set out in motorboat down Rio Preguiça towards the town of Barreirinhas.
The first stop is in the village called Mandacarú, a small fishing village where you can climb up the light house called “Farol Preguiças” navy lighthouse to enjoy an enchanting site of the Lencois Maranhenses, Rio Preguiça flowing into the ocean and the immense native forest; second stop is in the village called Mandacarú, a small fishing village where you can to appreciate various craft shops, the best caipirinha in the region at the kiosk on the pier and if accessible, you can climb up the light house called “Farol Preguiças” navy lighthouse to enjoy an enchanting panorama that embraces the entire mouth of the river and part of the National Park of Lencois Maranhenses; we finally continue by boat, sailing for another 40 minutes until we reach the town of Barreirinhas.

In the afternoon at 2.00 pm, after accommodation in the hotel, departure with a 4X4 jeep ( no air conditioning), Rio Preguiça is crossed by barge and then take the sand path to continue the trip until the Grandes Lençois Maranhenses National Park .
Then the trip begins with an excursion on foot to visit to the dunes where you will visit the Lagoa Bonita. Here you can dive into the lagoons with fresh and crystalline waters that form between the immensity of the dunes. The rains of the months from February to June create the countless lagoons of crystalline waters, some green and others blue, all very clear, some up to 4 meters deep.
The intense winds in the region, especially in the second half of the year, constantly move the dunes up to almost 20 meters per year, ensuring that the landscape is never the same from one year to the next.
Return to city after 7:00 pm, after admiring an exciting sunset in the dunes.
.

Lençois Maranhenses, Delta of Parnaíba and Jericoacoara - 6 days and 5 nights
Dear Francesco, I just want to thank you for a fabulous trip recently and for your own swift support throughout. I shall certainly recommend your company to others.
For your reference: Lencois Marahenses were fantastic and the driver and guide excellent. The Pousada do buriti was very good. The driver who took us to Parnaiba was excellent and was very good showing us birds etc in little Lencois.
The hotel in Parnaiba (pousada dos Ventos) was the only sub-standard part of the trip. Maybe if accommodated in the outside wings they would be in better condition but our room in the main building needs a lot of work. Location is good and staff very helpful but bathroom dirty and in bad repair.
Transfer to Jericoacara was functional. The Rox Hotel was excellent.
Our airport transfer was efficient.
All in all an excellent trip.
Thank you.

Dear Francesco,

I just wanted to say thank you for this amazing tour, we loved everything about it and it was organised perfectly!!! One of our highlights was the beautiful drive from Barreirinhas to Parnaiba during which we had the best guide ever, he was so nice and took great care of us and really made an effort to show and explain as much as possible to us though we don´t speak Portuguese.

Thanks again and best regards
Corinna

From São Luís to Fortaleza 4wd: "The Route of Emotions"
Hi Francesco!

Thank you for an amazing trip, it was just as good, if not better than expected! The tours and transfers were well organised and exceeded expectations! It was so great having everything organised for us, especially with our limited Portuguese and time! It was quite difficult finding information and tours from Australia, and without Brasil Planet we probably would not have been able to experience as much as we did! The route of emotions was definitely a highlight of our holiday and have been recommending it to many people!

Thanks again,

Louise

From São Luís to Fortaleza 4wd: "The Route of Emotions"
Hi Francesco,

How are you?

I finally had the time to leave a feedback on google.
Also I would like to write you some comments, so you can further fine-tune your offer.
Generally, we were really happy, it has been a wonderful trip and very well organized, all worked out very well.

Just some points of improvement:
Hotels:
All hotels were very good selected and really nice!
The only ones not so special have been the one in São Luiz (it has been under construction) and the one in Fortaleza (the room has a view on the back-side of the hotel - would have preferred a view to the ocean).
Tour:
It was very great! A unique experience indeed!
The only improvements would be:
The trip to the lençois Maranhenses - the pick-up was already rather late and there was a big delay - they only arrived about one hour after the agreed time - we were already very worried, as this excursion is the high-light of the trip. With the delay we had to wait a long time to cross the river and literally just made it short before the sunset to the dunes - it would be really recommended to leave earlier to this trip - even the guides said so - so if you can change it, make the pick-up in São Luiz one hour earlier and then arrange the pick-up for the excursion 2 hours earlier at the Rio Preguiço Resort Hotel - that way you have sufficient time to really enjoy the spectacle of the Lençois and take a bath in the various lagoons.
The other improvement is the trip from Jericoacoara to Fortaleza. Instead of mid-day this pick-up should be early morning - that way you could stop on the way at praia de paraiso (preferably) or simply have more time at Fortaleza - the way it is currently, bascially you waste the whole day travelling on boring roads from Jeri to Fortaleza - and since it´s the last day of the trip, it leaves a bad last impression. (Fortunately we had two additonal days in Fortaleza and then left to Fernando de Noronha - if not it would have been really depressing to spend the last day of your vacations in a bus riding through the inlands of Ceara).
If you are able to improve these two points, I think you´d really have the dream trip mastered out. Let me know once you implement this, and I am happy to recommend this as the perfect trip to my friends and family!

Thanks again for this wonderful trip and the splendid organization!

Kind regards,
Daniel

Jericoacoara, Delta das Americas e Lençois Maranhenses
Good afternoon Francesco,

Apologies for the late reply, we recently came back from our holidays in Brazil.

Emmanuelle and I would like to thank you a lot for the Route of Emotions tour that you organized for us ! We really enjoyed it.

All tours and transfers came as planned, and the choice of accommodations was great. In particular we liked the Pousada do Farol in Jeri and Pousada Vila Parnaiba. We also had great drivers from Jeri to Barreirinhas.

We will try to leave feedback on internet when we have some time. We’ll happy to use your services if we come back to Brazil !

Thanks again
